February 6, 2023:
Hi everyone! It’s Madison 22-132! I’ve been adopted and I’m staying right here at my foster home! Mom and dad said they were never giving me up. My new name is Emma Louise! There have been so many changes in my life and I couldn’t be adjusting better. I went from sleeping outside in a kennel to sleeping right beside mom, dad, and my sisters in bed. I snuggle in and sleep tight all night long. I still love all of my toys and like many retired breeding dogs, I love to empty my toy box and pile up all of my toys on my super comfortable dog bed. Mom and dad can’t believe what a prodigy I am and I love to learn. So far I know my name, come, sit, shake, stand up, down, back up, wait. I’m working toward the goal of being a Canine Good Citizen. Mom says it won’t be long! I walk perfectly on leash, fetch AND drop my ball, and deeply want to please my family. Mom and dad tell me all of the time that they can’t believe how lucky they are to have me.
I’m all recovered from my spay – boy, did I give my mom and dad and my friends at GRRoW a big scare during my surgery. I ended up spending the night in the intensive care unit, but did well enough to come home the next day. That debacle earned me so many hugs and kisses – that was the moment mom and dad said I was living with them forever.
Now, I’m working on making up for lost time doing fun “puppy” things. I love to run and play outside. I chase my big sisters and they chase me. I love to play hide and seek with my dad and wrestling with my sisters. Mom says we are planning a birthday extravaganza for me on March 8th. I have no idea what that is, but I’m willing to try anything. Mom and dad also have told me that we have a house on something called a lake. I have no idea what that is either, but it sure sounds fun.
I’ve come a long way since the day I was picked up. That day I trembled in the corner of the back seat of the car. My dad carried me everywhere because I was too afraid to walk. I am now a calm, friendly, affectionate puppy. My eyes are bright and I hold my body with confidence. That confidence is blossoming every day and my mom and dad are so proud of me. You’ll see in my pictures that I’m joining my sisters, Kate (former GRRoW dog 17-043) and Sarah, who are the best big sisters and have helped me every step of the way. Thank you to my friends at GRRoW for all of their hard work. They make dreams come true every day.
This is Emma signing out for now. Next time I check in I’ll be 2!

Let me introduce myself. I’m Madison 22-132, a 1 year 10 month old golden retriever. My foster mom says that I’m calm, sweet, and so beautiful. I got here on a Saturday and I was so scared. I had to be carried everywhere because I was too afraid to walk on my own. You see, I am a retired breeding dog and the world is a frightening place for me right now. Every single thing that I encounter is new – lights, the house, TV, steps, my dog bed, toys. Sometimes it can all be a little overwhelming, but my foster sisters and my mom and dad do everything they can to make me feel comfortable. My two golden foster sisters show me everything and I copy what they do. It’s been working great for me so far. In fact, my foster mom and dad squeak and wiggle every time I do something good and so I just squeak and wiggle right back! So far, I’ve learned to walk on my own, eat well with my sisters, do steps, play with toys, and sleep on my warm, comfy dog bed. My mom and dad are so proud of me!
I went to the doctor last week and was found to be a very healthy girl weighing in at 64 pounds. I did have bilateral ear infections, but with a little ointment they are all better now. I have my spay coming up on this week and, boy, will I be glad to have that over with.
Now that I am settling in, I’m looking forward to going on walks to explore, meeting new people, learning a few commands (I love treats!), and getting started living a great life!
